As part of a team of volunteers, Paulette helped establish the first SHARE program in San Diego, CA. SHARE, an acronym for Self Help and Resource Exchange, operated as a not-for-profit social business devoted to building and strengthening the community through volunteer service. It’s unique, volunteer-driven food distribution program helped families save up to 50% on groceries every month. Paulette joined the SHARE staff in June 1983 as Assistant Director. As the program expanded nationally, she was instrumental in creation of the SHARE-USA Network of 25 SHARE affiliates.
In 1995, Paulette assumed the position of Executive Director of SHARE Wisconsin, responsible for leadership and management of an organization with an annual operating budget of $4.4 million, serving 20,000 people monthly in a 4-state region. During her tenure, she initiated innovative program approaches to improve accessibility, including the SHARE Mobile Market to provide access to healthy affordable food for low income people living in Milwaukee’s food deserts.
Now Paulette has joined forces with her husband, Mike Flynn, to build GreenQuest by broadening its reach to include home gardeners. She loves learning from her own garden and kitchen and sharing both the science and practice with people who want to grow, cook and eat healthy food.
